The Meaning of Pink & Red: Why They Are Valentine’s Day Colors
Pink is a combination of red and white. White represents purity and when mixed with the hot passion of red, it reveals a gentler kind of love in the color pink. This softer shade has been used as a symbol of romantic love for many years. In fact, during the Victorian era, only young ladies who were considered pure could wear pink!
There are many famous examples of pink and red being used as Valentine’s Day colors. One of the most iconic is the Hallmark card company. For decades, they have released special collections of Valentine’s Day cards in these colors. And, in fact, their first Valentines ever were pink and red! These greeting cards were printed text and line images made from steel die engravings. The hand-fed press would produce 700 Valentine’s Day cards per hour and then they were hand painted!
